The Final Day (Mar 14th)
Day spent in Christchurch
I wandered off in the direction of the town centre in order to find an internet cafe to update the blog.
I found myself walking through the earthquake zone. Damaged buildings and roads are still sealed off. Buildings where people worked, buildings where people lived, areas around which peoples lives revolved awaiting destruction or repair. The word that came to my mind, appropriately or otherwise, was "moving".
Then I came upon the remembrance and tribute fence, lined with flowers and photographs of those who lost their lives on that fateful day (22/02/2011). Across the road are 185 white and vacant seats - one for each of the dead. You are invited to sit in any of the seats for which you feel attracted. Some of the seats are cradles and toddler seats.
At this point, finding somewhere to update this blog was no longer of any importance to me.
