Tour Day 12 (Mar 8th)

Haast Village to Clyde (305km)

Same old, same old!!!  Riding out this morning through the Southern Alps took us through more mountains (some forestry covered, some sandy grass covered, some cloud covered, some snow covered), more flat plains and turquoise lakes between them.

Still, something new was discovered today ... liquorice ice cream!! Apparently there are only a few places that sell this in New Zealand, and it was very nice.

Lunch was held in the town of Wanaka, sat in the sun by the grainy beach looking at a couple of snow topped mountains. Fabulous.

We paid a visit to Queenstown. This is a busy tourist town, and not somewhere I will be spending my rest day tomorrow. It is set in a very pleasant setting with a large lake, but it is not quiet enough for me on this holiday.

We then travelled through a couple of gorgeous gorges, with vivid blue lakes in them. Photos will not do these any justice at all ... but I'll try.

We arrived at our destination, and the first view of the town was a large dam. The second view was a small mid-west township (again!). The hotel is Victorian by look and nature, and a bit spooky. However, the rooms are nice and the bed was comfy.
