Tour Day 13 (Mar 9th)
Rest day in Clyde
A gentle ride to the town of Alexandra then back to Cromwell to revisit the gorge we passed yesterday. Both are small and really quite intimate. The town of Cromwell seems to consist of a walkway with shops either side (this is defined as the town centre), a large car park (where you can forget where you parked your motorcycle) and a road of hotels. Very quiet and tranquil.
A bit of a rest in the later afternoon, ready for an evening meal in the local Post Office. There I was served the most disgusting looking dish I'd ever ordered. A mushroom, beef and bacon soup, it looked like a bowl of dirty, oily water. It was, however, very yummy. This was followed by a venison java curry, once I had ascertained that the 'java' reference did not relate to the volcanic heat of the curry.
