Tour Day 16 (Mar 12th)

Geraldine to Greymouth (320km)

A pleasant, leisurely cruise was the dish of the day this morning. This ideology was inadvertently ruined by the guide, who whilst looking for a viewpoint, took us down a very dubious looking road. If I'd followed him fully on my bike, we'd still be there trying to get it back out. One of our group did follow him to the river side on his on/off road Yamaha ... and dropped it. No damage done to either party, though.

Shortly after this adventure, a brief stop to a lake named after me (Lake Lyndon). It's quite a decent sized lake too, and marked on the map.

The flat nothingness soon gave way to a mountainous region, which looked like a mass of large mounds of grey sand. Soon we were surrounded by many such mountains.

A couple of stunning mountain passes stood in our way, exposing snow capped mountains across the flats, followed by a lovely viaduct to traverse later added to the days delights.

The hotel is the best we've had for a while, and The Queen stayed there in 1954.
