Tour Day 17 (Mar 13th)
Greymouth to Christchurch (322km)
Our last trip was always going to be a relatively mundane one, but still very pleasant. A quick visit to the site of an old coal mine was followed by a good run along nice tree lined roads. Riding through more rivered plains and mountain passes has not lost its pleasure, though.
Then we got to Christchurch and it was time to part with the bike. She's done well, and performed well in everything she's had to do on this tour.
We finish with top accommodation next door to part of Christchurch that was demolished two years ago in the earthquake. It was lucky that the building was still intact, although it had undergone some strengthening beforehand.
During the day, one of our group had disconnected the battery from his bike and reconnected it. This resulted in setting the odometer to 999,999km on a four month old motorcycle, thus rendering it unsaleable. Yamaha will be contacted in the morning.
