Tour Day 8 (Mar 4th)

Wellington to Blenheim (33km)

Our last day in the North Island was started with a breakfast in the botanical gardens in Wellington. Our ferry leaves port at 2:30pm, so the morning was spent in the Te Papa museum. This was rather fascinating covering many aspects of New Zealand culture from the initial settlers to modern day.

The ferry trip was smooth and uneventful. Arriving on the South Island involved a 10km cruise through a mass of small forested islands. It's how I'd imaging the Norwegian fjords to look like ... only warmer.

Upon reaching our hotel, all 5 bikes were parked in a narrow passageway on the hotel premises. This will be fun backing them out tomorrow.

Hotel is a bit basic, but has a TV and en-suite bathroom ... something a couple of the previous hotels I've stayed at didn't have. TV has four channels, none of them with good reception.
